On Sunday, December 11th, an enthusiastic and diverse audience of over 150 attended the “pre-concert” of the Rumi Ensemble held at the Maritime Conservatory of Music.

Led by Saeed Foroughi who also contributed some of his original pieces, the Ensemble was complemented by sama and ballet dancers and by English and Persian recitations of Rumi’s works.

It seems as if many attending already shared a love and appreciation for the poetic works of this renowned 13th century Persian poet. Those less familiar at the beginning came away with a new appreciation of the poetic and spiritual excellence of Rumi. All were excited to see how the artistry of the Rumi Ensemble and friends would reflect Rumi’s work and the audience was not disappointed as shown in their standing ovation.

The first full concert will be January 27th, 2012 at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium. More information is available at www.rumiensemble.ca
